Sloan Music Video Compilation
|
Finally! From "Underwhelmed" to "She Says What She Means," a video compilation of Sloan music video will
be offered from murderecords and on tour containing every music video from '92 to now. The video will
include some other bonuses, such as a second version of "People of the Sky" (a la the "Coax Me" video)
as well as TV commercials for 4Nights.
Click here to see a picture of the video cover.
Here's the word from Mike Nelson of Murderecords on the name of the video: "Several names are
going around. The most likely title is 'Second Hand Views'. That is what currently appears
on the mock-up of the video box.
The news comes courtesy of Eye Magazine, which had these
words exactly concerning the video.
Will the video hit the stores though? A possible explanation... As stated in SloanNet post 2898 by
someone who talked to Chris after the CTV appearance, "the band does not want the Video Collection
available in stores. He says it's more for the Americans who don't get a chance to see the videos at all."
Still nothing yet on any live concert footage: "not planned for video release"...yet?

Sloan to Appear on MuchEast
|
As you all know, Sloan will be on MuchEast on Sunday, 3.10.99. As quoted from the Much Music
MuchEast site:
|
Well, we're now into October already and the good news is that there is a new
SLOAN album out there - Between The Bridges - and the even better news is that
the band was in Halifax on the day of the album's release playing an in-store at
HMV.
We at MuchEast took the opportunity to corral each of the band's members, CHRIS
MURPHY, PATRICK PENTLAND, ANDREW SCOTT and JAY FERGUSON, for one-on-one
interviews about the new record's theme and other less-than-well-known stuff
about the band. In other word's, folks, what we have this week is a SLOAN
SPECIAL.
The hour will also include lots of videos (including the new one for "Losing
California"). I think "Between the Bridges" is an excellent record and I think
you should all tune in to find out why.

 |
Sloan Appearances:
|
On 25.9.99, Sloan will be playing a concert at the Edge 102.1's studios at 6pm out on Yonge St. The
concert might be outdoors, as there were plans to section off some of Yonge St. for this event; this will
be followed by a signing session at Sunrise Records 336 Yonge St from 7:30-9:30pm.
CJ92 Calgary is giving away tickets to a private and exclusive show to those who call in; however, a
tie-in with other tickets and winnings has not made this a totally Sloan effort for the callers. Oh well.

When Will the New Video Be Out?
|
Mike Nelson of Murderecords reports to us the status of the "Losing California" video based
on the new single for the new album due out shortly:
|
I just thought that I would write to clarify some of the confusion that seems to be
surrounding the video release date.
The Losing California video will not be sent to Much Music until the 14th of
September. Chris has been in Japan since they filmed it. He was over there doing some
radio and press for the release of Between the Bridges. This week they will begin editing
the video. It will take awhile as it involves a lot of computer time and some effects work
to make his concept work.
I think that it is going to look great and be worth the wait...but of course, I'm biased.
|
New news comes along as the video is a little late on the expected release date: "The video has
been delayed by a few days as they are still working on a final edit. Hopefully it will be ready to go to
air this weekend."

Sloan's Private Gig in Vancouver
|
According to nikki as posted on the messageboard for the official website:
| |
I'm so excited. I found out yesterday via the GEORGIA STRAIGHT that sloan is doing a private show
at the Starfish Room on Wednesday the 27th of this month. NEXT WEEK!! there are 3 ways I've found of
entering:
1) get your butt to any A&B sound and buy Between the Bridges NOW. each location is giving away a set
of tickets to the first 10 people who buy the CD, I guess as of Thursday the day the STRAIGHT comes
out. HURRY, GO NOW or CALL AND CHECK WITH THE STORES - see p. 125 of this week's STRAIGHT.
2) look on p. 120 of STRAIGHT and email the answers in, it's easy you just have to name the guys in the
group. the email is: promotions@straight.com
3) go to this url and answer the easy trivia questions there too:
http://www2.mybc.com/aroundtown/contests/sloan
***I called the A&B closest to me just a half hour ago, and they still had tickets to give away, so I rushed
down and bought a CD. I already had it, but my friend will buy the 2nd copy from me. It sucks that the CD
isn't selling well, it didn't even sell 10 copies since the ad ran, but it's good for me, cause I have 2
tickets now. Yeah!!
oh yes, and you must be 19, cuz it's at the Starfish Room, sorry kids!
sorry, I'm just a little happy right now, so get thee out to an A&B and buy a CD, and get some tickets, and
hopefully see all you guys there!!

In short, HMV Halifax, Spring Garden Road, 21.9.99, 5pm! Be there!

Sloan on Chart's Top 90 Albums of the 90s
|
Was Chart magazine really created around the existence of Sloan? Just a question, but anyway
the great news is that Sloan placed four times on Chart's Top 90 Albums of the 90s; here they
are:
- 03 - Twice Removed
- 28 - One Chord to Another
- 83 - Smeared
- 90 - Navy Blues

Sloan 2000: More Changes
|
According to a recent article in Chart, the new album "Between the Bridges" will be the final
chapter in the current sound of Sloan as of late.
"This album is the end of an era," said Jay to Chart.
Chris elaborates, "It sounds childish, but I really wanted to get another record out in the
'90's. I just don't want to be the same band anymore after that." What will this mean? It all
sounds pretty scary, but we'll be sure to find out in another year or two.
What we do know or can speculate, as stated in the article, is that Jay & Chris think that
"this record will probably appeal to newer listeners outside of Canada, most of whom first heard
the band via Navy Blues and subsequent touring"... Much much more news as it comes.
[And if anyone has the MuchMusic interview from last week or so on Rapid Fax transcribed,
bring it on over! The American doesn't get Much or Chart...yet. -SA]

Chart News on Between the Bridges
|
Enough with the rumours and speculation; Chart Attack's DAMN has finally come through with the names
of tracks on some artwork to the upcoming Between the Bridges, due out September 21st. Some
of the track names are different from what people thought before, but here are the tracks:
|
"The N.S"
"So Beyond Me"
"Don't You Believe A Word"
"Friendship" (Patrick)
"Sensory Deprivation"
"All By Ourselves"
"A Long Time Coming"
"Waiting For Slow Songs"
"Losing California"
"The Marquee And The Moon"
"Take Good Care Of The Poor Boy"
"Delivering Maybes"
|
As DAMN reports, the album bears many influences from the Beatles (as usual), and "elements" of "Chicago,
KISS, Ben Folds Five, Aztec Camera and Redd Kross to these ears."
The first singles is once again Patrick's, with "Losing California," which will be shot as a music video
later this month along with its release on TV "within a month."

Sloan 2000: More Changes
|
eZine Superstar in Stereo comes
through with another huge scoop...some lyrics for the songs on the upcoming "Between the
Bridges."

New Album News
|
Sloan's follow -up to Navy Blues, titled Between the Bridges as said by Mike
Nelson, a Murderecords' representative. "It has 12 songs, three by each member of the band."
It will be released first in Japan on September 16th, and then a week later in Canada and the
US on September 21st with a tour to follow in the US, Japan, and Canada.
According to ChartNet's DAMN 13.7.99,
"The record is finished except for the mastering, and was mixed in New York City by Chris
Shaw ...Chris, Jay, Patrick and Andrew will be officially "on vacation" throughout August."
And as if having the name of the long-awaited (well, of course!) album wasn't enough, the
eZine Superstar in Stereo had
a tentative list of songs that could be on the CD:
| Chris: |
"All By Myself" "The Marquee and The Moon" "So Beyond Me"
|
| Andrew: |
"Nova Scotian Boy" "Well Alright" "Blood Pressure"
|
| Patrick: |
"Walk the Line" "Friendship" "Rock Bottom"
|
| Jay: |
"Circle Friend" "Don't Believe a Word" "Piano Rocker"
|
And for more differing song titles, a recent issue of Chart listed these for the song titles, as
well...
- Chris: "Style Gun"
- Andrew: Untitled
- Patrick: "Rhodes Jam" (??)
- Jay: "Take Good Care of the Poor Boy"
In addition to this at the recent July dates, there's been rumours of the song names (purely
rumours) being "Andrew" or "Andy," and "Losing Cali" among others. How this all fits with
Superstar in Stereo's news will be interesting, but all will be revealed on the 21st!
